About the Pip Value Calculator

A pip (price interest point) is the standardised unit of movement in a forex quote. Understanding pip value is essential because it translates price movements into real profit or loss figures for your account.

For most pairs, 1 pip = 0.0001 (the 4th decimal place). Japanese yen pairs are the exception — their quotes only go to 2 decimal places, so 1 pip = 0.01.

The cash value of a pip is not fixed — it depends on the instrument, your position size, and the current exchange rate relative to your account currency. This calculator handles all three variables for you.

The actual cash value of 1 pip depends on three things:

  • The instrument being traded
  • The size of your position
  • The current exchange rate
